BETA Closed

The BETA phase of Metro UI is closed.  The two apps, currently BETA & Stable, will be changed to Free & Pro.  I will still be supporting the Free/Beta version but any major new features (drag n drop, folders, animated tiles, etc.) will be only added to the Pro version.  In simpler terms here is a break down of what updates to expect depending on the version you currently have:

BETA/Free

  • Bug Fixes
  • Live Tile Updates (Facebook Count, Twitter Count, etc.)
Stable/Pro
  • Bug Fixes
  • New features
    • Folders
    • More live tile options (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
    • Animated Tiles (People, Pictures, Calendar, etc.)
    • Drag n Drop (if I ever figure out how to allow a GridView to do this)
    • Custom Tile sizes (2x1, 1x2, etc.)  (again...if I ever figure out how to allow a GridView to do this)
As always I appreciate your patience.  I do work full time and I do have a life outside of work.  So even if updates slow down, rest assured I am not giving up on development.  I will post here once I feel all major development is done on the Pro version (v 1.*).

NOTE:
Drag n Drop and 2x1/1x2 Tiles may not get into METRO UI until v2.0.  Again please have patience.  I do plan on adding these features.  The constraints of my current design seem to make it impossible at the moment.  So it may take a major development effort (hence v 2.0).  In the mean time I may try to add a "priority" property of each tile that I can sort on.  That way you can at least re-order just not via Drag n Drop.

  2. As soon as that feature is in place I will do that. Just to clarify, the lists in the post are what to expect from updates, not what is currently available.

  3. very nice work so far and good ideas for the updates. a few suggestions, the proportion of the images on the tiles are a nice size but the tiles themselves (Squares) feel a tad big than they should be. also will there ever be support for regular pop/exchange mail count in addition to the other features outlined? if so, i will buy your pro version hands down

  4. Very nice work on the UI man! As of now I have the free version installed, but I will be getting the pro if the updates keep coming... I got burned by the windows phone android dev. He quit the day after I bought it!

  5. At this point support for the native pop/exchange mail application can't be supported. Google did not allow permission to the object that contains all that information. If at any point Google opens up access, I will add that support.

  7. for everyone looking for more icons such as myself i found that it was very difficult to add them though i may have found ones i liked BUT metrostation icons on deviant art fit in PERFECTLY! http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/292/c/2/metrostation_by_yankoa-d312tty.zip.

Just choose the white icons after you choose the sub category. mount your phone drag the selected icons to your sd.

then hold down on the icon tile pick custom then sometimes it will force close, sometimes it adds it without a hitch but just keep trying till it adds it.

this home replaced laucherpro for me for now and now that i have more icons the only thing i need is the new update!

hope this helped and please purchase the pro version and support this great home replacement app.

  24. just a thought, when the update was released today or yesterday with the drag/drop edit/delete function, the area where it shows the red or yellow stays black instead of having that screen realestate "vanish and allow more room for the icons... if that area would disappear allowing the icons to fill that space, my screen would perfectly hold 4 rows of icons instead of 3.7ish. still, great ui! loving the updates that keep coming out! i dont know how all the nitty gritty works but i would love to see a calendar and calculator app with a more wp7 feel or a widget for those of some sort.

  26. Wow, amazing stuff. This is why I love Android. So this may have been noted but the 2 x 1 tile I'm using for SMS is just a tad wider than the 2 1 x 1 tiles above it. I use a Nexus S. Not a big deal but thought it kind of odd. You probably already caught this so my apologies if so. Great job and thanks so much for your hard work and frequent updates!
